Information about Team Minnesota

Minnesotans spend about $1 million a year on 5 people elected to provide statewide leadership - a Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Auditor, and Secretary of State. The career politicians who run for these offices from the other parties each run their own campaigns, with their own staffs and offices, campaigning on their own priorities and messages. Once in office they do the same thing. Each focuses on how to get re-elected or how to use their office as a stepping-stone for their political ambitions to higher office. As a result, Minnesotans are not getting all the leadership they are paying for.

Getting the results that Minnesotans demand takes focus - one agenda with everyone working on it. That takes a team, not a ticket. The five of them share a vision for a better Minnesota. They are independent-minded, have a track record of innovation and results, know how to get things done in government, and are true public servants - not career politicians.

They are coming together to seek the Independence Party's endorsement and then run together as a team, with one campaign, one focus, and one set of priorities. Once elected, Team Minnesota will deliver both the results Minnesotans expect and all the leadership they are paying for.

POLITICS IS BROKEN!

Politics is broken by close-minded partisanship that has paralyzed their government. Most partisan politicians say they are 'for' schools, roads, health care or the environment but focus their energies on the threat posed by the 'other side' on the 5Gs: guns, gays, God, gambling, and gynecology. On every issue, and especially the 5Gs, the partisan extremes have made enemies of those they disagree with. They have used fear to divide them from their friends, neighbors and community. As a result they have lost sight of the common sense core that connects them. They have been voting their fears and are only more afraid. It's time to claim their independence from close-minded politics and fear.

The partisan extremes have hijacked their Minnesota, abandoned their values, and closed down their ability to imagine a better way and then take the practical steps to make it happen.

OPEN UP MINNESOTA!

Minnesotans are not close-minded. Minnesotans expect each of them to work hard, tell the truth, and take responsibility for themselves and their families while also doing their part to help others and build a strong community. Minnesotans are practical and imaginative - crafting solutions from the best ideas available. Too many political partisans want a quick fix, bend the truth to their liking and use government to help themselves while dividing them from one another. That is not the Minnesota they want.

Minnesotans want an open minded politics that moves them forward by combining imagination with practical action to address the challenges they face. Not left. Not right. Forward.

Minnesotans want leaders who will:

* Bring them together to move forward.
* Keep the main things the main thing.
* Deliver better results for their money.
* Change things to make things better.
* Recognize that the status quo is not the only or best choice.

Minnesotans want leadership that opens up possibilities for:

Doubling the odds of Minnesota students getting a college degree (and being able to afford it).

World class health for Minnesotans at the nation's lowest cost per person - a system that delivers better health, better care at better price for every Minnesotan.

Investing reliably in reliable transportation/transit so that rising congestion (and wasting more of their time) is not their only choice.

Reducing Minnesota's dependence on oil, repairing damage to the environment, reinforcing economic competitiveness, and reversing the pollution of their lakes and streams.

Challenging "the way they've always done it" to get more value from every dollar that government spends today rather than sticking future generations with their debts.

Keeping these main things the main thing (education, health, transportation, energy/environment and an affordable price of government) without allowing the 5 G's - guns, gays, God, gambling, and gynecology - to divert, divide, scare or paralyze them.
